Volunteer with Beacon House

Discover the joy of making a meaningful impact by volunteering at Beacon House. Our diverse range of opportunities ensures there's a role for everyone, with flexible hours to accommodate your schedule. Whether you're supporting the food bank, contributing at our retail store, or assisting in our shelter, your unique skills can make a significant difference. Embrace the opportunity to be part of a caring community dedicated to positive change.

The Beacon House Shelter provides a welcoming space for community members to drop in during evenings between 6 pm-8 pm, offering access to conversation, resources, warm meals, and a safe place to sit. In our search for new volunteers, we seek individuals with experience and comfort working with people experiencing homelessness or those at risk, as well as those who have been marginalized in our community.

Our volunteers come from various backgrounds, including nursing, police work, social work, or counselling. If you have a special skill that you believe we can utilize, please mention it in your application! Most volunteers work during our drop-in hours, collaborating with shelter staff and other volunteers to support guests and ensure their needs are met. Volunteers are never left alone with clients and always have the support of experienced staff members, fellow volunteers, or our Shelter Coordinator in uncertain situations.

Beyond drop-in hours, there are opportunities for special projects like event planning or community outreach. We value input and ideas from volunteers and the community as we continue our work, rooted in our origins as a volunteer and community-run organization.
